We’ve deliberately involved the entire Tyrone GAA family in planning Garvaghey. Turning those plans into reality won’t be simple. It’s easily Tyrone’s biggest-ever GAA capital project. But the Tyrone GAA family has never before shirked turning ambition into reality. We can’t start shirking it now. And we won’t.
Tyrone GAA has always matched ambition with pragmatism. We’re doing that with Garvaghey by tightly planning and managing it as a major, multi-faceted project. We’re also phasing it, though not in a vague, open-ended way. Our ambition is to have Garvaghey fully operational by 2013.
The project is being scoped and will be overseen by some of Tyrone’s most experienced professional development and project management people. Like the rest of us, they’re doing that voluntarily, as their contribution to something that’s important to them and their families.
Garvaghey will cost an estimated £6.7m to deliver. About £5.5m of that still has to be raised. We have Tyrone GAA volunteers working hard following up on GAA; Sport NI; and other grant aid. But around £2.5m will have to be raised by the Tyrone GAA family ourselves. That’s the challenge that faces all those of us who celebrate the Tyrone GAA. And it is a challenge. But by meeting the challenge we secure our legacy for those who come after us.
levelling the rough field
We’ve put in place a Tyrone GAA family-wide strategy to fund Garvaghey. It’s based on the tried-and-tested GAA ethos of depending on everyone and having a place for everyone; of sharing our work and its benefits; and of putting in rather than taking out. Just as we’ll all benefit from Garvaghey in our own way, so can we all help make it happen … in our own ways.
our strategy
We’ve put in place a Tyrone GAA family-wide strategy to fund Garvaghey. It’s based on the tried-and-tested GAA ethos of depending on everyone and having a place for everyone; of sharing our work and its benefits; and of putting in rather than taking out. Just as we’ll all benefit from Garvaghey in our own way, so can we all help make it happen … in our own ways.
There are four strands to our funding strategy. That’s a deliberate approach, to make sure there’s a way for every Tyrone gael to contribute in a meaningful way to this unique project. Our four strands are:
- Club Tyrone: as an existing or new member of Club Tyrone, our County’s main fund-raising vehicle, a significant part of your contribution for the next five years will be dedicated to Garvaghey and will underpin its development
- Garvaghey Patrons: people who make a contribution of £5,000 to Garvaghey and whose generosity will be publicly acknowledged as part of the fabric of the new complex
- Céad Míle Pixels: an internet-based approach that’s a GAA first and which allows people to contribute from £5 upwards in a personalised way that will be marked for all time
- Garvaghey Sponsors: people or organisations who make a major investment in Garvaghey and for whom naming rights may be available
